Pre-visit Guide
Are you planning a trip to the Zimmer Childrens Museum? Here are a few things to know before you come.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
The Zimmer is an interactive space for learning, play, imagination, and exploration. Each exhibit has a different learning opportunity and provides for hours of fun. You and your child can splash at our water table, cook up a storm in the Blue Bagel Café, snuggle up for a story in Bubbies Book Store, and sing a song on the Mann Theater stage. Your child will also be challenged to fly around the world in our Zimmer Jet, create beats from around the world at Music Island, and share their thoughts with our Newsrooms Big Questions. The journeys you can take at the Zimmer Childrens Museum are endless. Visit the EXHIBITS page for more details on each of our exhibits.
We encourage you to interact with your child and engage him/her in each teachable moment that our museum exhibits provide. Your child will learn about human values such as respect for others, helping those in need, generosity, and creativity through the powers of play and their ability to pretend. Come spend the day or just a few hours exploring our exciting world!
FAQs:
Is there a changing area in the building? Yes, On the lower level there are changing tables in both the mens and womens restrooms.
How can I find my way around the Museum? The Zimmer Museum is very easy to navigate. The staff at the front desk will be happy to help you find your favorite exhibit and answer any questions.
Is there a cafeteria or food service in the building? For the convenience of our guests, we have recently installed snack and beverage vending machines in Room 10, lower level. A wide variety of healthy and nutritious snacks and a selection of water and juices are available for your enjoyment. In addition, there are several restaurants and cafés nearby. The staff at the front desk will be happy to offer suggestions.
May I bring my own food into the Museum? Yes, on the lower level is a room reserved for snacks and lunches. Food is not permitted anywhere else in the museum.
Is there an area to breast-feed my child? Women are free to nurse their children in any space of the Museum. For added privacy we suggest finding a quiet corner of the snack room.
Is the Museum wheelchair accessible? Yes, there is an elevator located just outside our front lobby. All of our exhibits are designed to allow for wheel chair accessibility.
May I bring my stroller? Yes, strollers are allowed anywhere in the Museum. However, because of space limitations we encourage you to leave your strollers in the car. The Zimmer Childrens Museum is not responsible for any personal belongings.
Do you have a mailing list? Yes. You can sign up to receive information at the front desk. You will then receive our quarterly brochure, monthly email blasts, and other flyers about the Zimmer.

How long does it take to see and experience the Zimmer? The visitor experience varies with each child, though commonly you can expect to spend one to three hours here.
Would my baby (under 18 months) enjoy the Museum too? Yes, very much. We have a special toddler bounce room for them to enjoy, a water table to splash in, a quiet nook for storytime, and many fascinating things to discover.
FEES AND MEMBERSHIP
Do I have to pay for readmission to the Museum? Admission stickers entitle visitors re-entry to the Museum for the day. However, if you leave the building, you may not leave your car in the garage.
Why do adults pay admission at a childrens museum? Adult admission helps defray the cost of educational resources provided by the Museum. Grown-ups are important to the fun and learning that takes place at the Zimmer. We encourage you to explore and experience the Museum with you children. Intergenerational play and interaction is an important value at the Zimmer. We promise that you can "play" here too.
What special benefits do Museum members receive? With the Family membership, members receive free admission for two adults and the children of the house (nannies may also be included), free admission to our Sunday workshops, and discounted admission to our performances and classes. Joining at our higher levels of membership is, of course, encouraged. For more information contact Carrie Jacoves at carrie@zimmermuseum.org or 323-761-8992.
If Im a member of the childrens museum in my hometown, do I receive free admission to the Zimmer Childrens Museum too? If you are a current
contributing level member (minimum $100 level) at a childrens museum that participates in the Association of Childrens Museums reciprocal membership program, simply present your museum membership card with an ACM sticker on the back (issued by your home museum) for free admission at the Zimmer.
May my child have a birthday party at the Museum? We offer a private birthday party session on Sunday mornings; however, Zimmer birthdays are very popular and are usually booked approximately a year in advance. For more information call Amy Williams at 323-761-8910 or email at amy@zimmermuseum.org.
